Isaiah 52:7 (NKJV) How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, “ Your God reigns!”
At Calvary Chapel East Anaheim, we believe the key to living a meaningful life involves a life of self-denial. (Matthew 16:24-27) Unfortunately, self-denial is one thing our culture does not understand or value. In our country, and Southern California especially, we have almost unlimited opportunities for leisure, recreation and entertainment. Our culture emphasizes self-worth, self-esteem and self-fulfillment, which are all in direct contradiction to self-denial.
Jesus’ every moment, task and word shared was in submission to the Father. At 12-years old, Jesus responded to his parent’s inquiry of his whereabouts by asking them: “‘Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?’” (Luke 2:49)Are you about the Father’s business? Or like our culture are you busy about your own business? We want to challenge you to evaluate how you spend your time. Do you spend all your time on your self, pursuing entertainment, pleasure or recreation? Or are you redeeming your time for the sake of lost souls? (Colossians 4:5)
If you want to get good at something, you have to practice it. If you want to get good at living life the way God intended (in submission to Him), you have to practice self-denial. We believe one way to become good at serving others is to be involved in short-term missions. To that end, we send teams to serve with various ministry partners in Mexico 4-6 times per year.
Our goals in going to Mexico are:
- To fulfill the Great Commission and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with lost souls;
- To serve and encourage our missionary partners who daily serve in Mexico;
- To give our body of believers an opportunity to practice a life of self-denial;
- To train up our youth to be the next generation of missionaries.
Presently we serve in two communities in Baja California: La Mision and Colonia Vicente Guerrero. Our trips to Mexico are usually weekend trips (Friday through Sunday) and are open to all ages. Parents are encouraged to bring their children so they learn by our example. The only real requirement to joining our teams is possession of a valid US Passport or Border Card.
