Prayers and Condolences for the Adams Family

Please leave your prayers and comments below.

The Adams family and Calvary Chapel East Anaheim have experienced a double tragic loss.

On Wed Aug 15th, while away at the church’s family camp at Sugar Pine Christian Camp in Oakhurt, Ca, the Adam’s family decided to spend the day down in Yosemite Valley while most of the rest of the campers were at Bass Lake for the day. While down in Yosemite Valley, several members of the Adam’s family were enjoying wading in the river. The two younger sons, Andreas (age 10) and Jacob (age 6) were unexpectedly caught in the river’s rapids and were swept downstream. Their mother (Char) and older brother (Josh Reish) tried to rescue them from the turbulent waters but were unsuccessful.

A fund has been established for the Adams family at CCEA to assist them with necessary expenses. If you would like to donate to this fund, you can send a check to the church made out to “CCEA” with “Yosemite Family Relief” written in the memo section.  Online giving for Yosemite Family Relief will be available on Monday, August 20th.  Contact the CCEA church office for additional information. 714-695-9650.

With our sincerest gratitude,

Pastor Bob Kopeny

  2. A tragic and heartbreaking situation for the Adams family. We send our love and want to express our sorrow for the pain that this brings and are praying that God will bring comfort and peace to all in your body of believers and especially to Char-Lee. We support churches and their leaders as they minister to the brokenhearted. Isa.61 tells us Jesus came to proclaim the good news – which helps us in the times when the news is bad. He was sent to bind up the brokenhearted -and that is exactly what He will do for Char-lee and your church. I pray that the Lord will sustain, protect and hold her in the palm of His hand and as a Father tends to his children that she will be able to sense His presence in this most difficult time of need.

  3. Roseanne Comer says:

My heart is breaking for this family! There isn’t any words to say! I believe Jacob was in my Sunday class a few weeks back and he had corrected me on his paper with his name. When I heard this tragic news this is the first thing that came to me was this little conversation. Bless his little heart. May the prayers and Gods love fill the hearts of this family for strength and the will for each day that is to follow.

    We are his,

    Roseanne Comer

  90. Alan Stock says:

    Char and Angelo,
Thursday night August 16th…our car was packed for our trip to Yosemite, when we saw the news and heard of the tragedy ( but not knowing the whole story). Our hearts were heavy and we couldn’t figure out why. We sat in the courtyard outside our house praying if it was still meant for us to go. We decided no, and cancelled our trip. Not until the next morning did we see the news and noticed how familiar the little boy looked. No it can’t be!! We now figured out that it was you, our former neighbors and friends that had suffered such a tragedy. The heaviness in our hearts has now turned into a hole. The courtyard where we prayed, was where Jacob and Andy had once played. The house we stared at as we prayed, was your former house. We are devastated and grieve with you, but joy comes in the morning. I could just hear the giggles in Heaven now as the boys run through the streets of gold! We are praying for you often! Please let us know if there is anything we can do.
Love , The Stock Family – Alan, Ceighte, Braiden and Caradyn

  91. We have been so heart broken over this, yet we know how even the word JOY cannot express in any measure how Andy and Jacob must feel in the presence of our KING. I have many memories of both of them on Wednesday evenings sitting with each other during teaching time, just as the picture of them was displayed at the prayer vigil. This memory is heartbreaking and yet awesome to, in the fact that We KNOW they are together and were meant to be that way always. We do pray for His strength and peace to meet your needs as often as is necessary and in an abundance overflowing.

His Peace be with you always!

    Love,

    The Cuevas’
Dave, Melissa, Sam, Luke, Jude & Charis

Angie, as your friend, a brother in Christ, and as a father who has raised children as believers, I want to say how proud of you I am. We both know the whims of this world and what really matters and I am amazed at how tender and loving you were with your boys even while circumstances were trying and patience was thin. You were like a child at Christmas awaiting them and any chance to spend time with them. I know the pain you experienced silently enduring it these last several weeks, the hope you had for you and Char, and now this. I’ve never respected anyone more and when you appear before Him as regards Andy and Jacob I know He will say “Well done faithful servant”. Much respect to you my brother because you raised those boys right and they KNEW they were loved. I love you

When Richard’s family perished in a typhoon in Hong Kong, the wound is slow to heal. But we have experienced God’s immeasurable blessings as well. GOD IS GOOD!

  120. David Cockrell says:

    Dear Char & Angelo,

I just want to let you know we are still praying for God to carrier you through this difficult time. We will be attending the memorial service for Jacob. God bless!

  121. Debbie Valenti says:

My heart goes out to you in the loss of your 2 beloved sons. Please know you’re in my thoughts and prayers. I wanted to share a poem with you entitled:

    God’s Little Angel
A little “Angel” came to earth one day
He gave only love then he went away
Don’t ever forgetthe love he brought – his bright happy smile and
    the lessons he taught.
It’s hard losing someone who gives only love and goes back to
    heaven to his Father above.
Remember him always; there’s no other way.
Then know in your heart you’ll be with him one day, but for now
share the love and continue to say,
Thank you, God, for my angel who has gone away.

    A scripture to share: Isaiah 41: 10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

I will continue to pray for you and know how truly God loves you.

  123. Cammack's says:

Please know that we have been praying for you and your family since we received the news the day after the incident. Our hearts have mourned with you and broken over your loss. We have been praying that you would be comforted in your grief and loss, we prayed for the recovery of Jacobs body and we’re thankful when he was found, knowing it was a prayer of yours. We continue to pray not only for your physical healing, but for the healing of your hearts which will only come through Christ. Know that you are not alone, that you have a church family that loves you and desires to be there for you. We will continue to pray for you and your family.

  124. Janelle Kuwayama says:

    Dear Adams Family,

My heart goes out to each and everyone in your family. My husband, son and myself attended Jacob’s service on Saturday. It was a beautiful tribute to your son. I never met any of you, but I cannot stop thinking about you. I told my mom about the tragedy in Yosemite and she said that she had heard about it in the news. My mom spoke to her pastor this morning at St. Gerard’s Catholic church in Culver City and a mass will be said in honor of Andy & Jacob this Friday evening. Every first Friday of the month, a mass is held all evening long until sunrise for special intentions. Even though I won’t be able to attend the mass myself, I will say a special prayer that evening when their mass is being said. You both have such a strong faith and it’s your faith in God that continues to get you through this.

    God bless you…..

  125. LaRose Family says:

    Dear Precious Adams Family,
We are so sad to hear of your tragic loss. I have no words to offer, but this prayer, “Dear Heavenly Father, Please pour your peace and your love on this family. Please provide what they need. Thank you that they are a part of our church and I pray that they will experience your love, through the body of Christ that surrounds them. Show us how we can help. May Your people help to bear the tremendous burden they are carrying. Father, please bless this family, as only You can. We love You and trust in Your ways, even when we don’t understand.”

  126. Munoz Family says:

Floods of sorrow pour upon me like thunder….yet day by day the Lord pours out His steadfast love upon me, and through the night I sing His songs and pray to God who gives me life. Ps 42:7-8 LIV paraph.

  127. Kelly Barnhart says:

Although I do not know you personally and did not have the priveledge of knowing Andy and Jacob, I cry with you and continue to pray for your family and everyone whose lives they touched. May God bring some good out of all of this which is so tragic to us. I am also praying for Christina (I do not know you personally, except that you are a young adult like myself. I can’t imagine the hurt of suddenly losing your brothers whom you were so close with and helped raise. Cling to Jesus sweety. With everything you have. Fix your eyes on Him even when you don’t understand. When He is all we have, we have everything we need.) Although it may take time, I pray He will restore your HOPE.

Our God is the only One that sees every tear we cry. He will carry you through this time and I pray that he will reveal Himself in a very personal way to each one of you . He never leaves us nor forsakes us. We love you brothers and sisters in Christ!

  130. Chris & Heidi Gaukler says:

We had the pleasure of knowing and serving your boys thru Children’s Ministry on Saturday nights for the past couple years up until this past February. Andy made us smile, even if it was just by giving a knuckle bump and little cracked grin. Sweet lil Jacob had become so comfortable and fun in class, I remember how apprehensive and shy he had been for the first few months. Every night after worship we would have the little 4/5/K class pick an animal to be and crawl into the classroom from the court of praise. We would choose all different animals, I remember Jacob always pretended to be a lion ;) We have been devasted about your loss since we first heard the tragic news. Our hearts literally hurt for their absence as well as your pain. Trusting the Lord to be your Jehovah Jireh…May He provide you with everything and anything you need-in each minute, of each hour, of each day! You have continually been in our prayers. Even a clerk at the christianbook store told me that the staff had been praying for your family every day since they heard the news as well. You are so covered in prayer and so loved!

  131. The Sully Family says:

    Dear Adams Family,

  135. Bill Whitworth family says:

Please know that we are praying for the peace of the Lord to carry you and comfort you through this very tough time. The number of messages here from your church family must certainly be an encouragement and a comfort to you. At the same time, it is a blessing to us to see Char-Lee and Angelo pulling together and supporting each other as you try to cope with it all. So many times the devil gets into the act and starts the blame game, which just tears the family apart and makes matters worse at a time when you need to closer than ever. We’re all here to support and encourage you, so just identify a need, and you’ll have an army of willing helpers. May I also mention that our Thursday night home Bible study is just starting the book of 1 Peter, which is aimed at people who are suffering, or about to suffer, and we’d be delighted to have you join us. Just call the church office, or (*82) 714-996-3157 for directions. God bless you all.
